Looking Back on 2019

Updated: Mar 19, 2020

In order to ensure our organization continues to provide our community with quality services, the Mission Society evaluates each school year and creates a big picture view of what we've accomplished. Through this effort, we’ve had the opportunity to better understand the effectiveness of our programs, and how we might evolve to increase our impact and expand our reach.

Looking back on 2019, we were thrilled to see how much was achieved by each student, family, and individual that joined us throughout the year. Today, you can read highlights from our findings below!

Our Community

  • Mission served 5,400 students, parents, and individuals across the city in 2019.

  • We employed 187 passionate, dedicated staff members who made our work a success.

  • 54% of our employees lived in the communities that we serve in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn.

  • Our students and families came from over 37 different countries, and spoke 22 different languages.

Our Impact

  • There was a 98% college acceptance rate for high school students in our Learning to Work program, which increased 20% from 2018.

  • 73% of parents who enrolled their children in our Power Academy program for K-8th grade students say it gave them more time to obtain a job.

  • 93% of students in our Power Academy program shared that the program helped them better understand and express their emotions.

Thank you to each and every one of you for making our work possible in 2019. We are incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished together, and we’re looking forward to what’s ahead in 2020!
