Honoring Native American Heritage

Disability representation in STEAM

This Native American Heritage Month, the Mission Society is proud to honor and celebrate Indigenous communities across the country. With over 500 tribal nations, each with its own rich heritage, language, and traditions, Native Americans have been shaping the land and its history for thousands of years. Today, this deep connection to heritage remains a powerful source of strength and inspiration for these leaders and changemakers in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). These trailblazers are not only advancing their fields but are honoring their ancestors, preserving their connection to the land, and leading with intention in their communities.

Join us in celebrating these powerful Indigenous voices whose groundbreaking work is forging new paths for the next generation of dreamers.

These Native American leaders are breaking new ground and transforming our communities in ways that inspire us each day. This month, we are reminded of their influence in our schools—and how much more there is for us to learn. In our classrooms, we create intentional lesson plans that dive deeper into the history and contributions of our nation’s first people that go beyond textbooks alone. We designate time for students to step into our outdoor classrooms and connect with nature, encouraging them to see the land as a living teacher, just as Indigenous communities have for generations. And each year, our multicultural festivals bring students together to celebrate their heritage and traditions, creating a space for sharing and learning from one another. We’re proud to honor these Indigenous trailblazers and the heritage they draw from, inspiring our students to learn, grow, and connect with the world around them and each other.
