Get Counted for Our Schools

Updated: Oct 13, 2020

Today, we have an extraordinary opportunity to make change for families across the country by participating in the 2020 Census. Conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau every 10 years, this easy-to-complete form plays an integral role in determining the strength of our political voice in Congress and the distribution of billions of dollars towards vital state programs. At Mission, we care deeply about these efforts, as the results significantly impact public schools and education programs that serve our community of young people on a daily basis.

Funding that is allocated using Census data has the potential to keep class sizes small, support special education classrooms, help educators receive up-to-date training, provide free or reduced-cost school breakfasts and lunches, and keep the doors open for afterschool programs like the ones we provide here at Mission. When children and their families go uncounted, it becomes incredibly difficult for them to access these crucial services.

Knowing how important this moment is for all students and parents, we invite you to Get Counted for our schools by filling out your 2020 Census online at my2020census.gov.

If you’ve already completed the Census, you can always spread the word to your family and friends! We’ve created an image for you to share on your social media to urge your loved ones to participate, which you can DOWNLOAD HERE. Tag us in your posts on Twitter (@missionsociety) or Instagram (@missionsocietynyc) and we will re-share, working with you to reach as many individuals as possible.

Taking just a moment from your day to participate in the Census will ensure that schools are fairly funded, important programs continue to exist, and that the people in law-making positions have the information they need to represent our priorities. We hope you join us in our efforts to protect the many communities that make up our city.
